Maison Covelli

A mineral, a peptide, a maison.

In 1832, a deep indigo-blue copper sulphide, identified on the slopes of Vesuvius, was named after the Italian mineralogist Nicola Covelli: covellite. Nearly a century and a half later, scientists isolated another form of blue copper, GHK-Cu, a tripeptide produced naturally by the body.

Maison Covelli brings the two together. We formulate concentrated serums, made in Italy, where each active ingredient is dosed for what it does — never for what it promises.

What’s in the bottle

Ingredients selected for their effects.

Five families of active ingredients, each at a concentration we can justify, and each selected for a specific effect on the skin’s appearance. Nothing has been added just for the sake of the label.

Questions

What is expected of us.

What is the GHK-Cu?

GHK-Cu (Copper Tripeptide-1) is a small peptide of three amino acids bound to a copper ion, and it occurs naturally in the body. In cosmetics it visibly firms the skin and reduces the appearance of wrinkles. In a twelve-week study of 71 women reported by Pickart and Margolina (Int. J. Mol. Sci., 2018), a copper-peptide cream was associated with increased skin density; the concentration used is not stated there. Its blue colour is that of the copper-peptide complex itself.

Why is the GHK-Cu serum blue?

Because copper complexed with peptides is naturally blue. We do not add any colouring agents. In fact, it is this colour that gave the brand its name: covellite, an indigo-blue copper mineral found on the slopes of Vesuvius.

What are exosomes, and what are they doing in serum?

Exosomes are very small vesicles released by cells. Those in our Serum N°2 are of plant origin, extracted from fruit — never of human origin, which the European cosmetics regulation prohibits. Let us be clear about the state of knowledge: the published data on plant vesicles applied to intact skin remain preliminary, and the few trials run in humans all involve a device that pierces the skin. We therefore attribute no effect to them. What plumps the skin and refines its texture in the N°2 are Tetrapeptide-21, hyaluronic acid in five molecular weights and lactobionic acid.

Can I combine several serums?

Yes. A simple rule: start with the lightest texture first, and just one ‘star’ product per time of day. Vitamin C in the morning; GHK-Cu or retinol in the evening, alternating between the two. The anti-dark spot serum and the exosome serum can be combined with anything.

How long does it take to see results?

You’ll notice the hydration and radiance from the very first applications. For firmness, the appearance of wrinkles, dark spots or skin texture, allow eight to twelve weeks of daily use — this is the duration covered by the available studies.

Are serums suitable for sensitive skin?

Our formulations contain no added fragrance and the INCI list is published for each product. Retinol (N°5) requires gradual introduction. If in doubt, test on a small area for 48 hours.
